Dear Beloved Community,
As 2024 ends and we begin anew, my heart is filled with gratitude and joy for all we have experienced together during this Advent and Christmas season. "God With Us," has been at the heart of everything we’ve done this month, reminding us of the profound and comforting truth that we are never alone—God’s love dwells among us, within us, and through us.
This December has been nothing short of extraordinary. We began with our International Christmas Celebration, a vibrant gathering where we explored the diverse and beautiful ways Christmas is celebrated around the world. Sharing a wonderful feast together, we glimpsed the unity and joy that comes from embracing our differences and celebrating our shared faith.
On Christmas Eve, our candlelit services brought peace and wonder into our hearts, enhanced by the beautiful trumpet accompaniment of Joe Slonek. Then, Christmas morning arrived in a way only this community could celebrate—with pajamas, Lessons and Carols, and a delightful pancake breakfast! Each of these moments was a testament to the warmth, love, and creativity that make this congregation so special.
I also want to take a moment to thank you. Your generosity this season has been deeply humbling. We have come so close to meeting our budget, and that is a testament to your faithful stewardship and care for this church. Your giving is not just about sustaining this building; it’s about creating a space where all people are welcomed, loved, and cherished—a home for all.
Please know that we are carefully exploring all options as we plan for the future, with the goal of ensuring that our church continues to be a beacon of love and service. Through Christ, who strengthens us, I am confident we can do all things, including meeting the challenges and opportunities ahead.
Jesus tells us in the Gospel of Matthew, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Those words ring true for this congregation. Your faithfulness, generosity, and love shine brightly, and I am so grateful to walk this journey with you.
As we look to the new year, may we continue to grow together in love and service, inspired by the hope and promise of Emmanuel—God with us. I look forward to all that we will build and share in the coming months, as we live out our call to be the hands and feet of Christ in the world.
With abundant gratitude and joy,
Rev. Adam Dowd
Pastor, Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Darien.
